“Why I Walked Away From Peter Obi” — Kenneth Okonkwo Reveals Qualities He Says Disqualify Him From Presidency

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has opened up on his fallout with the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, alleging that he discovered traits that convinced him the former Anambra State governor is not fit to lead Nigeria.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, the Nollywood actor-turned-politician claimed Obi betrayed him despite his loyalty and support.

Okonkwo disclosed that he publicly severed ties with Obi in 2024 after reaching the conclusion that the NDC flagbearer lacked the decisiveness required of a Nigerian president.

His remarks came less than 24 hours after he was announced as spokesperson for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Recounting the events that led to their separation, Okonkwo said he had openly informed Nigerians that he was no longer speaking on Obi’s behalf because he could no longer defend his leadership style.

“As a public affairs analyst that I have been since 2009, before I ever met Peter Obi, I continued doing my job. One of the earliest interviews I granted in July 2024 was when I publicly stated that I was no longer speaking for him because he is not decisive,” he said.

“I have seen certain qualities in him that, in my opinion, make him unfit to be President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I made that position public after I had concluded my work with him.

“I wanted Nigerians to know that I was no longer representing him, so I made my position clear and moved on with my life and career. But despite everything, he was the one who betrayed me.”
