As political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gradually gather momentum in Imo State, former First Lady of the state, Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, popularly known as Ada Owere, has unveiled a political development agenda that seeks to bring together a new generation of Labour Party candidates under a common vision for Owerri Federal Constituency.
The initiative, tagged “The New Faces, The New Deal,” features four political aspirants seeking elective positions across the federal and state constituencies, with a central message of coordinated leadership, grassroots development and improved representation.
Leading the proposed political team is Ada Owere, who is seeking election into the House of Representatives to represent Owerri Federal Constituency.
Others featured in the campaign are Hon. Engr. Obaraeze-Amanze Charles Darlington, listed for Owerri West State Constituency; Hon. Chika Anyanwu, for Owerri North State Constituency; and Hon. Fidelis Chukwuemeka Onyeneke, for Owerri Municipal State Constituency.
At the heart of the initiative is a proposed working relationship between federal and state legislators, with the aim of ensuring that elected representatives operate as a coordinated team rather than pursuing disconnected political interests.
The campaign argues that closer collaboration among lawmakers would improve the attraction of federal and state projects, strengthen the fight against insecurity, create employment opportunities and expand empowerment programmes for youths and women.
It also identifies community transformation, better infrastructure, skills development, innovation and sustainable economic opportunities as key priorities for the constituency.
Explaining the philosophy behind the initiative, the campaign maintains that effective representation should be measured by tangible achievements rather than political positions or promises.
Women’s Leadership Takes Centre Stage
Another significant feature of the political agenda is its emphasis on women’s participation in governance.
The campaign promotes the belief that leadership should be determined by competence, vision and capacity to deliver, rather than gender.
It also highlights the importance of creating opportunities for women and providing younger generations with role models capable of inspiring greater participation in public leadership.
With the 2027 elections approaching, the unveiling of the four-member political team signals an attempt by the Labour Party aspirants to present a common political identity and development agenda to voters across Owerri Federal Constituency.
Operating under the slogan “The New Faces. The New Deal,” the campaign projects a vision of collective leadership, stronger communities and a more coordinated approach to governance.
Whether this proposed alliance will translate into electoral success remains to be seen, but its message places collaboration, inclusion and grassroots development at the centre of its political proposition.
The campaign’s closing declaration is simple: “New Leadership. New Vision. Real Change.”
