The National Director Unemployed Youth Association of Nigeria, Comrade Ugochukwu Sylvester Emeana has called on men and women advanced in age to give the youths opportunity to contest for elections.
Emeana who made the call on Tuesday during his visit to the All Progressives Congress, APC Secretariat in Imo State, averred that it is disheartening that the elderly ones are dragging Councilorship position with the youths, when according to him, they are supposed to be supporting them financially and otherwise to take up such position.
He continued that how will the youths be the future of tomorrow if they are not been given such little opportunity to man the affairs of a State.
Emeana therefore urged the aged parents to correct the anomaly by stepping down for the youths, especially for the Councilorship position in the forth coming LGA Election.
Hear him,” Visiting this APC Secretariat in Owerri, Imo State, I can see with my eyes lots of old men in there 70s, and above purchasing form for Councilorship position, which is not suppose to be.
“We have about two hundred million unemployed youths in Nigeria seeking for what to do, and this can be reduced by aged politicians allowing and supporting the youths in any way they can to come out and contest for elections; especially for small positions like Councilor.
“The governor of Imo State is executing commendable works in the state, but I plead with him to see a way to further support the youths and ensure that they are allowed to participate in elections.
“Knowing the fact that most of the youths cannot afford the forms, we have been supporting in the little way we can the ones that are interested to contest for the Councilorship position which is what financially bouyant advanced in age politicans that are advanced in age and other citizens of the country should be doing for a better society.
“For if our youths are meaningfully engaged, crimes will reduce to its bearest minimum, ‘ Emeana stated.
He therefore called on everyone that is financially stable to support and sponsor interested youths in contesting for elections.
