Imo Assembly okays Ikpamezie’s call for renaming of IICC to Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu Int’l Conference Center

In view of the motion moved by the Mbaitoli lawmaker, Hon. Innocent Ikpamezie, the Imo State House of Assembly has called on Governor Hope Uzodimma to immortalize the name of Late Dr. Chief Engr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu (Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo).

They urged for the renaming of the Imo International Conference Centre, IICC to Dr. Chief Engr. Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre.

The Imo Assembly made the resolve on Tuesday during the House plenary when the motion which was co-sponsored by eight other lawmakers was presented by its Chief Sponsor, Hon. Innocent Ikpamezie.

Presenting the motion, the Mbaitoli legislator averred that it was a great privilege for him to have the opportunity to talk about Chief Engr. Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu him, who he said everyone can attest to his good works while he was still alive.

He continued, “Chief Engr. Dr. Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu, is a worthy illustrious son of Imo State and International entrepreneur, played significant role in national politics and sports. His philanthropic works in Nigeria worth billions of Naira and remain unforgettable having provided good Roads, water, homes for the destitutes as well as awarded scholarships to many students at Secondary and University levels;

“As a lover of Sports, he founded the Iwuanyanwu National Football Club, which is now being enjoyed as Heartland Football Club of Imo State. He has made many people in politics.

“He financially supported the building of the Imo International Cargo Airport. In December 1980, He built and handed over the Iwuanyanwu Children’s Library to the University of Nigeria Nsukka. At that same period he donated for public service the Iwuanyanwu Orphanage Home, at Atta Ikeduru.

“He donated for public use National Ambulance which is to cater for accidents victims all over the country. In 1985, he donated a Blood Transfusion Center at Federal Medical Center, Owerri, and many other numerous private Humanitarian services.

“As a president General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, he ensured peace and fought for the marginalization Ndigbo nationwide.

“Chief Engr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu is not a man that should be easily forgotten for he has really made a mark, not just in Imo, but the country at large, hence the need for him to be immortalized, ‘ Ikpamezie stated.

Speaking in favour of the motion was the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chyna Iwuanyanwu, Majority Leader, Rt. Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi, Deputy Majority Leader, Rt. Hon. Sam Osuji, Minority Leader, Rt. Hon. Princewill Amuchie, Deputy Minority Leader, Rt. Hon. Clinton Amadi, Members Representing: Ikeduru, Hon. Johnleoba Iheoha, Ngor Okpala; Rt. Hon. Obinna Egu, Njaba, Hon. Ozioma Worship Ebonine, among others.

They reiterated how Chief Iwuanyanwu has impacted many lives, including being a mentor and a father figure to most of them.

They further commended the Mbaitoli lawmaker for bringing up such motion, saying it is a right step in the right direction.
