Telecom tariff hike: NSCDC warns NLC against planned protest 

The Federal Government have deployed Security agents; The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, to stop the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, from going ahead with their planned protest towards the 50percent telecommunication tariff hike.

The protest which the NLC has slated for it to take place March 1, 2025, will involve shutting down of telecommunication services.

National Beam gathered that the NSCDC had deployed operatives to the base stations to prevent any illegal action by the protesters, saying NLC action could pose a potential risks to national security and public safety.

This we learnt was disclosed to Punch Newspaper by the spokesman of the agency, Babawale Afolabi.

It would be recalled that the NLC announced its intention to shut down the operations of telecommunications companies across the country if the tariff hike announced by the Nigerian Communications Commission was not reversed by the end of February.

They in a communiqué signed by its President, Joe Ajaero and General Secretary, Emma Ugboaja, accused the telecom operators of breaching public trust by implementing the tariff hike before the conclusion of a 10-man review panel’s deliberations.

The union also faulted the government for failing to protect citizens from corporate exploitation.
