A non-denominational fellowship of highly placed persons in the private and the public sector of the Nigerian economy, geared towards assisting its members to grow spiritually, live consistent and victorious Christian life; International Friendship League(IFL) has held a Special Independent Day Celebration.
IFL which is a vision of the General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William F. Kumuyi, held the event on Ist October, Wednesday at Rockview Hotel in Owerri the State capital, and had many renowned personalities; Vice Chancellor of Abia State University, (ABSU) and Chairman of the occasion, Prof. James Okeudo, Professor of Biochemistry in FUTO, Prof. Chinwe Alisi, Prof. Mrs Chinenye Udeze (former Dean Faculty of Arts in Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education).
Others – Prof. James Ngoka ( former Imo State Government House Permanent Secretary), Prof. Stephen Ndianefo ( Consultant Dental Surgeon Federal University Teaching Hospital Owerri), Prof. Kenneth Nnadi (Department of Maritime Science and Technology FUTO) among others from diverse walks of life, and denominations, present to take part in the event.

Looking at the theme of the programme, “Beyond Dependence Living In True Freedom”, the aforementioned personslities who hinged their discussion on diverse aspects of freedom; spiritual, health and financial freedom, noted that the ultimate freedom is spiritual freedom which according to them happens when someone encounters Jesus Christ, accepts him as his Lord and personal Saviour, and is no longer under the bondage of sin.
They urged everyone to pursue it, asserting that in it is embedded every other freedom.

On Financial and Health freedom, they earnestly advised Nigerians saying,”No matter the amount of money you have, learn to control what you eat as it goes a long way in determining how healthy one becomes”.
They pointed out that the lifestyle people adopt these days, especially over what they eat and drink has led to the predominance of deadly diseases; like Cancer, Kidney failure among others.
“People should avoid intake of processed foods, and eat more of home made food with fresh vegetables. Avoid use of too much spices like Maggie, sachet spices and go for natural spices like Ogiri, ginger, garlic, tumeric, crayfish, among others. Consumption of all these spices is what at the long run results to people suffering from various diseases even at an early age.
“We advise every family to have a garden in there house where they can pluck fresh veggies. If you must put your food in the refrigerator allow it defroze before you warm it for consumption so as not to make it lose all its nutrients while being in a hurry to melt it with fire. Parents should also teach their children how to feed healthy by making them understand how important it is to make eating of fruits and vegetables a habit instead of junks, and processed foods.
“Most importantly note that there is no hard and fast rule that says you must eat three square meals a day. When you feel full, there is no need to eat in the name of keeping to three square meals, as your system takes enough time to even digest one square meal taken.
“People should avoid leaving near refuse dumps as it is not just harmful to there health, but also causes cancer of the breast to men.
“Nature has blessed us with lots of fruits and veggies that comes out in diverse seasons, always try your best to enjoy everyone of them as it is majorly what the body needs, ‘they advised.
In summary, the Chairman of the occasion, and VC of ABSU, Prof James Okeudo, reiterated that the ultimate freedom is having Jesus Christ in ones life, averring that he is what he is today because of God.
Saying that we are the ones to positively change the narratives in the nation, prayed that such programme as organized by ITF will continue as it is an avenue to transform lives.
The Planning Committee Chairman, Pastor Okonkwo Peter, on behalf of other committee members thanked God for the success of the programmes, and prayed that God will give them the enablement to sustain it quarterly.
There were testimonies of the good works of the Lord, and Message of the Word of God to the people from the General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William F. Kumuyi, among others.
