The Imo State House of Assembly has called on the Commissioner for Works to urgently move into reconstruction of the road leading to Atta, Inyishi, Amaimo, Ugirike Bridge to Obohia Afor Oru roads.
They also urged the Commissioner to firstly ascertain the extent of the damage on the road by carrying out its thorough assessment before venturing into the rehabilitation.
This ensued on Tuesday, during the House plenary, when the motion which was co-sponsored by 16 other legislators, was moved by Member Representing Ikeduru State Constituency, Hon. Johnleoba Iheoha.
Presenting the motion, Iheoha who is the House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Commerce and Industry, pointed out that the roads leading to Atta, Inyishi, Amaimo, Ugirike Bridge to Obohia Afor Oru roads have been in a dilapidated state, which has affected the activities of the people in the area, and also led to economic losses not just to the people of Ikeduru, but Ahiazu Mbaise people too.
He noted that it has also given room for bandits to be operating freely on the roads, harassing the people and other road users.
The lawmaker therefore averred that when the road is fixed, it will not just tackled the aforementioned challenges it has posed to the people, but will also improve the socio-economic well being of the area, stall traffic on the roads which has also been a major challenges witnessed in the area.
He continued, “We want total rehabilitation and reconstruction of the road, so the Commissioner should first and foremost conduct an assessment of the road to find out what is required of them to do. For the rehabilitation is not what cannot be down without such assessment.
“I have no doubt that the rehabilitation will commence soon as we have a governor who has prioritized on the welfare of the people by making significant strides in Infrastructural development, and health care, ‘Iheoha stated’.
He cited the Owerri – Okigwe road, Owerri-Orlu, Owerri-Umuahia road, Sam Mbakwe Airport road, MCC road, Opara Anozie road, Health Centers in the three Zones, Imo State College of Nursing Sciences, Midwifery, and Specialist Hospital in Inyishi Ikeduru LGA, Merit College of Nursing Sciences and Midwifery to further buttress his point of what Governor Hope Uzodimma has done Imo State.
As there was no one against the motion the Speaker, Rt Hon Chike Olemgbe put the motion to vote and the Ayes had it.
He further directed the Clerk of the to get the resolution of the House across to the appropriate quarters.
