Economic Hardship: Labour Union Declares 2-Day Nationwide Protest

To express dismay over the economic hardship and insecurity faced in the country, the Nigeria Labour Congress has declared a two-day nationwide protest earmarked to hold 27th and 28th of February, 2024.

 

The President of the Congress, Mr. Joe Ajearo revealed this during a Press Briefing, after members of the National Executive Council of the union, met at the Labour House in Abuja.

 

According to the Nigeria Labour Congress president Mr. Joe Ajearo, the hardship being faced by Nigerians needs to be addressed and If agreements reached between the government and labour are not met at the expiration of the fourteen-day ultimatum by labour which will occur on the 22nd of February 2024 stringent measures need will be taken.

 

“if our demands are not met after the nationwide protest, NEC is to issue a seven-day notice that will expire on the second day of March 2024 to the federal government after which an indefinite nationwide strike will assure that Nigerian workers and people are not interested in the empty talk now, but action.”

 

On the issue of minimum wage, Mr. Ajearo said the inflation rate which has made the value of the Nigerian currency drop continuously makes it difficult to determine the exact amount to demand.
