Court Arraigns 48 Years old Man Over Alleged Baby Selling

The Magistrate Court siting in Abakaliki Ebonyi State has arraigned Mr Onwe Francis Nwifuru 46 years old over allegedly false possession of a baby and selling the 8 days Old Baby for 1.6 million Naira.

On the hearing of the matter, the Magistrate, Barrister Agama Agama said the suspect was brought to the court on three counts charges which was read through the court clerk.

“Onwe Francis Nwuguru ‘male’ 46YRS

That you Onwe Francis Nwuguru ‘m’, and others now at large on the 8th day of October, 2025 at Nsukka Street Abakaliki, in the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: Child stealing and thereby6 committed an offence punishable under section 516A (a) of the CriminaI Co.de Cap.33 Vol.1 Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria,2009”

“That you Onwe Francis Nwuguru ‘male’, and others now at large on.the same date and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District did by means of deceit steal eight (8) days old baby boy without the consent of the mother Philomena Iroko ‘female’ and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 33 (3) of Ebonyi State Child Right Law and Related Matters Law 2010”

“That you Onwe Francis Nwuguru ‘male’ and others now at large on the same date and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District did with intent to defraud, obtain the sum of One Million Six Hundred Thousand Naira (N1,600,000.00) from Ugochukwu Josephine female with the Pretence that you will assist her in adopting a baby boy and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 1 (3) of the Advance fee fraud and other fraud related offences Act 2006,Laws of Federation of Nigeria”. He read.

The defence counsels, Solomon Eguji and Chinedu Nwogbaga and that of the Complainant Counsels, Luck Adonwe,

Barine-Koli Solomon were all ready for proper legal action.

The matter was adjourned to 19th November, 2025.

It was gathered that None Governmental organization, Luke Chibueze Adonwe Human Foundation (LACH) has been taking care of the mother of the child, Mrs Philomena Iroko as the foundation has provided accommodation and feeding for the mother and her baby.
