On the 17th of December 2025, the Imo state chapter of Petroleum Environment Solid Minerals Degradation Awareness Association PESMDAA will be inauguruted in Imo state having met all requirements as stipulated in PESMDAA bye-law.

Because of this, the Imo state executive officers led by the Honourable State Coordinator, Chief Dr. Sam Akah paid courtesy visits to the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, the Imo state Commander of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, the Department of State Security Service, the brigade commander of Artillery brigade Obinze and the Secretary to the Imo state government, Chief Cosmas Iwu.

“By the grace of God on the 17th of December, the Imo state chapter of this organization will be hosting our inauguration.

“And as it is usually the custom, when hosting the inauguration it is necessary that your commands would be present.

“So we are going to inaugurate the chapter in Imo state. The venue is Rockview hotels Owerri.

“You are, by the grace of God, required to also bring your resource persons, apart from your presence, which is highly needed”, Akah noted.

Continuing he said: “It is very important that I also throw a little light on who we are.

“You can agree with me that part of the insecurity we are having in our country is as a result of illegal mining of solid minerals and petroleum.

“Now, this organization is collaborating with the federal government, state government, local government, Governments at all levels, to bring about a Task force for the creation of awareness of this menace.

Now, this task force, when inaugurated in Imo state, will bring the awareness to every nook and cranny of the state by letting people know that our environment has been badly depleted and messed up as a result of this illegal activity from the extractive sector.

“As such, our job is to collect a reportage which automatically goes to inform all security agencies in the country and government, relevant authorities about what we see”, Akah stated.

Responding the Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Mr Basil Igwebueze expressed his profound joy over the visit and corroborated everything the State Coordinator had earlier said concerning the environment.

“I’m delighted, having the privilege of entertaining you in our office.
That you found us deserving of your precious time is in itself an act of recognition that we don’t toy with.

“We are happy that you are here. Like Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps you know, all our activities are in tandem with what you have just marshalled out.

“Because the problem of the country is that of insecurity which is the critical problem of the environment and if insecurity is tackled, then you have a secure environment and you have an environmental friendly environment, then the country will prosper”, he said.

Mr Igwebueze promised to honour the event with his resource persons.
