The leadership of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Imo State chapter, has officially changed hands as Dr. Mrs. Dorothy Nnaji stepped down and transferred authority to her Vice Chairperson, Comrade Chizoba Opara, following her appointment as Permanent Secretary.
In her handover remarks, Dr. Nnaji expressed gratitude to members for their unwavering support and dedication throughout her tenure. She urged them to extend the same cooperation, unity, and goodwill to the new Chairperson to ensure continuity and sustained progress within the association.
She also appreciated the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, for his support to the association during her time in office, noting that NAWOJ’s strength lies in unity and a shared commitment to advancing the welfare and professional growth of women journalists.
In her response, Comrade Chizoba Opara commended Dr. Nnaji for her impactful leadership, highlighting key achievements recorded under her tenure. These include the furnishing of the Chairperson’s office and conference hall, acquisition of a bus for the association, and improvements in members’ welfare.
Opara pledged to build on the solid foundation laid by her predecessor and called on members to continue working together in unity to move the association to greater heights.
The transition elicited emotional reactions from members, who offered prayers and goodwill messages to Dr. Nnaji as she assumes her new role. They also charged the incoming Chairperson to uphold the core mandate of promoting professionalism, unity, and the welfare of women journalists in the state.
