A heartbreaking plea from a Nigerian woman serving in the United States Army has sparked concern after she publicly appealed to President Donald Trump for help in bringing her 10-year-old daughter to the US.
The woman, who identified herself as Uzumaka, said she has been separated from her daughter for about a decade while working through the immigration process.
According to her, the child has completed the necessary US immigration requirements but remains in Nigeria amid current visa restrictions.
The situation, she said, has become even more desperate because her daughter is reportedly critically ill and needs urgent medical attention that she believes may be difficult to obtain in Nigeria.
“I am only simply asking that there should be an exception for me. My daughter is critically ill. I have all the paperwork to prove it, medical reports,” she pleaded.
The US Army member revealed that she had already contacted her military commanders and US Senator Amy Klobuchar, but was informed that her daughter’s visa process was moving according to the normal procedure.
However, with her daughter’s health reportedly deteriorating, Uzumaka said she could no longer remain silent.
Turning directly to Trump, she made an emotional appeal for a humanitarian exception that would allow her daughter to join her in the United States.
“Please, Mr President, help me reunite with my daughter,” she said through tears.
She also called on social media users to share her video and help draw attention to her situation, revealing that she had reached out to major news organisations without receiving the response she hoped for.
“This is just a mother fighting for her daughter to live and survive,” she added.
