After weeks of intense internal battles, protests and uncertainty, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has finally uploaded the names of its governorship candidates for 27 states ahead of the 2027 elections, leaving only one state unresolved.
The remaining state, located in the Northeast, is reportedly awaiting the selection of a deputy governorship candidate, with party stakeholders expected to make a final decision at a crucial meeting in Abuja.
Among the notable names on the APC’s final list are Lagos Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, Ogun Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi), Rivers politician Kingsley Chinda, former Bauchi Governor Mohammed Abubakar, former PTDF Executive Secretary Ahmed Tijani Galadima for Adamawa, and Mustapha Gubio for Borno.
The party also confirmed the candidacies of Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Peter Mbah (Enugu), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Abba Yusuf (Kano), Dikko Radda (Katsina), Umar Bago (Niger), Nasir Idris (Kebbi), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara) and Ahmed Aliyu (Sokoto), among others.
The development follows the resolution of disputes that trailed governorship primaries in several states, particularly Kwara, Oyo, Adamawa and Bauchi, where aggrieved aspirants had challenged the outcomes.
In Kwara, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi Salihu, retained the party’s ticket despite opposition from several high-profile aspirants.
In Bauchi, former Governor Mohammed Abubakar emerged victorious after a heated contest that triggered defections, including that of Senator Shehu Umar Buba to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Adamawa also witnessed political tension after Ahmed Tijani Galadima, reportedly backed by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, secured the APC ticket despite not being Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s preferred choice. However, both camps have since reconciled.
Similarly, the controversy in Oyo has been settled, with Senator Sharafadeen Alli officially recognised as the party’s governorship candidate despite earlier objections from former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu.
A party source disclosed that all major disputes have now been resolved and that the only outstanding issue is the nomination of a deputy governorship candidate in one Northeast state.
The source also revealed that about 60 percent of the APC’s House of Assembly candidates have been uploaded to the party’s portal, with political parties having until August 8 to submit the names of their governorship and state assembly candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
