GOMEP-NG Condemns Violence as APC Delta Central Leadership Meeting Turns Bloody

EFFURUN – A  leadership meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta Central turned violent on Sunday, July 26, 2026, after a clash involving party members and government officials left several persons injured, including the Delta State Government’s Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Protocol, Mr. Mudi, popularly known as Temple.

The incident occurred at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Conference Centre in Uvwie Local Government Area, where party stakeholders had gathered for the Delta Central APC leadership meeting.

Eyewitnesses said the violence followed a disagreement allegedly linked to events surrounding the recent burial rites of the late Koto at Okwagba, although the exact circumstances that triggered the confrontation remain unclear.

Videos circulating on social media showed chaotic scenes, with chairs, bottles and tables reportedly used during the fracas. In one of the videos, Mr. Temple was seen attempting to flee as he was allegedly attacked by some of the participants.

Sources at the venue claimed that tensions had been brewing between supporters of the Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, and associates of the governor’s SSA on Protocol before the confrontation escalated into violence.

Unconfirmed reports indicated that Mr. Temple sustained injuries and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention. There were also conflicting accounts regarding the condition of Izeze, with some sources claiming he sustained injuries, while others said security operatives escorted him away from the venue.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Delta State Government, the APC nor the Nigeria Police Force had issued an official statement on the incident.

Meanwhile, the Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) condemned the violence, describing the attack as unfortunate and inconsistent with the conduct expected of political office holders.

In a statement signed by its National President, Comr. Akpovoke Otiti, the organisation urged the Delta State Government and security agencies to investigate the incident thoroughly and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice.

GOMEP-NG said the violent altercation, which occurred during a leadership meeting organised to promote unity among APC members in Delta Central, had the potential to erode public confidence in the party if decisive action was not taken.

The group further called on political appointees and party leaders to exercise restraint and uphold democratic values, stressing that acts of violence have no place in the nation’s political process.
