Ronaldo In Fresh Portugal Crisis: Spain Coach De La Fuente Reveals What He Would Have Done

Spain head coach, Luis de la Fuente, has spoken about the controversy surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s latest situation with the Portugal national team, revealing how he would have approached the matter if he were in charge.

Ronaldo has been at the centre of attention during the current international break after withdrawing from Portugal’s squad following a disagreement reportedly involving his playing time.

Speaking ahead of Spain’s UEFA Nations League clash against Czechia, De La Fuente was asked how he would have handled the situation involving the veteran forward.

The Spanish coach, however, refused to make a definitive judgment without knowing exactly what transpired between Ronaldo and Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus.

“In my opinion, this is something to be dealt with when it actually happens,” De La Fuente said.

He added that every situation was different and should be handled according to its circumstances.

“Honestly, I don’t know. As I said, one can’t give an answer without knowing the truth of what actually happened. And unfortunately, that’s all I can tell you,” he stated.

Ronaldo and Jesus reportedly disagreed over the amount of playing time the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was expected to receive during the international window.

The Portuguese captain was left on the bench without making an appearance for the first time since 2008, a decision that reportedly left him unhappy.

He subsequently left Portugal’s training camp in Copenhagen and issued a statement explaining his decision, while indicating that he would provide further details about the circumstances surrounding his withdrawal.

Ronaldo consequently missed Portugal’s 4-2 victory over Denmark and is also expected to be unavailable for their upcoming encounter against Norway.

The latest development has added another layer of intrigue to Ronaldo’s relationship with the Portugal setup as the veteran striker continues to play a major role in the national team.
