France captain Kylian Mbappé has surged to the top of the 2026 Ballon d’Or rankings following his match-winning performance in France’s 2-0 victory over Morocco in the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals.
According to the latest Polymarket rankings shared by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Mbappé has overtaken England captain Harry Kane to become the leading contender for football’s most prestigious individual award.
The Real Madrid star played a decisive role in France’s triumph on Thursday. Despite missing an early penalty, Mbappé bounced back in spectacular fashion, breaking the deadlock in the 60th minute before setting up Ousmane Dembélé for France’s second goal.
The performance significantly boosted his Ballon d’Or chances, pushing him ahead of Kane in the race for the coveted trophy.
Mbappé now leads the standings with 28 percent, while Kane trails closely behind on 25 percent.
France winger Ousmane Dembélé occupies third place with 15 percent, while Argentina captain Lionel Messi remains in contention in fourth position with 13 percent.
With the World Cup entering its decisive stages, the race for the 2026 Ballon d’Or is becoming increasingly intense, and every performance could prove decisive in determining the eventual winner.
