Lagos Turns Pink! Ada Owere Leads Major Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign As BRECAN Jog For Life 2026 Holds

Lagos is set to witness a powerful show of solidarity in the fight against breast cancer as the Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria (BRECAN) holds its 2026 Jog for Life campaign today, Saturday, October 31, at the Police College, Ikeja.

The event is expected to bring together breast cancer survivors, health advocates, corporate organisations, medical professionals and members of the public to promote breast health awareness, encourage early detection and support people affected by the disease.

Organised by BRECAN, the initiative goes beyond physical exercise, serving as a platform to educate Nigerians on the importance of regular breast checks, medical screening and timely intervention.

Activities lined up for the event include dance aerobics, physical fitness exercises, breast health education, free medical screening, networking and community engagement, as well as a flag football exhibition.

Adding prominence to the occasion, Lady Maryanne Chukwueke, Managing Director of Admiralty Motors Ltd and President of Ekoglam Luxury Fashions, will serve as Chairperson of the Day, while Mary Gbobaniyi, Manager, Sales – West Africa, Delta Air Lines, will lead the jog.

Speaking ahead of the campaign, BRECAN Founder, Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, expressed pride in the organisation’s journey since its establishment in 1997.

According to her, what began as a personal response to her breast cancer experience has evolved into a movement dedicated to educating communities, empowering women, supporting survivors and breaking the stigma associated with the disease.

Having lived with the breast cancer experience for almost three decades, Anyanwu-Akeredolu reiterated her longstanding message that breast cancer is not a death sentence when detected early and treated promptly.

“Breast cancer is not a death sentence. Early detection saves lives!” she emphasised.

She called on Lagos residents, corporate organisations, civil society groups, healthcare professionals, breast cancer survivors and the general public to participate in the campaign by wearing pink, engaging in the activities and spreading the message of early detection.

The 2026 BRECAN Jog for Life is scheduled to commence at 9:00 a.m., with the Police College, Ikeja, serving as both the starting and finishing point.

As the campaign brings people together under the pink banner, its central message remains clear: awareness must go beyond conversations and translate into action.

For BRECAN, every step taken, every screening conducted and every life reached represents another opportunity to save lives.
