Abuja Conference Takes Shape As GOMEP-NG Names Chief Grace Aghoghovbia Mother of the Day

The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) has unveiled Chief Mrs. Grace Aghoghovbia, Ph.D., Executive Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Foreign Matters, as the Mother of the Day for its 2026 Annual Conference, Lecture and Workshop.
The prestigious event is scheduled for Thursday, November 26, 2026, at the Maryam Babangida Women Development Centre, opposite the CBN Headquarters, Abuja.
The conference, which is expected to attract media practitioners, policymakers, security experts, legal professionals and other stakeholders, will focus on the role of online media in Nigeria’s democratic development and information ecosystem.
The event is themed: “Securing Nigeria’s 2027 Elections: The Role of Online Media in Information Integrity, Public Trust and Democratic Resilience.”
As part of the programme, Chief Mrs. Aghoghovbia is also expected to deliver a presentation on “The Role of Women in Shaping Today’s Politics.”
Her presentation will examine women’s participation in politics, leadership, civic engagement and public policy, while highlighting the importance of greater inclusion of women in conversations surrounding Nigeria’s political future.
GOMEP-NG said her selection as Mother of the Day is intended to recognise her presence and support while adding another dimension to discussions on democratic development, credible information and public trust.
The conference will be held under the distinguished chairmanship of His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Zulum, CON, MNI, Executive Governor of Borno State.
Among the keynote speakers expected are Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc; Dr. Monday O. Ubani, SAN, Legal Practitioner and Policy Analyst; and Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and Chairman, Conference of State Speakers of Nigeria.
Discussions at the gathering will centre on information integrity, responsible online journalism, misinformation and disinformation, public trust, electoral communication and democratic resilience ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Guild said the conference will also provide an opportunity for online media editors and publishers to exchange professional experiences, strengthen collaboration and explore practical ways of improving the credibility and impact of digital journalism in Nigeria.
GOMEP-NG expressed appreciation to Chief Mrs. Aghoghovbia for accepting the honour and agreeing to share her perspective on women’s role in contemporary politics.
With prominent figures from the media, security, legal and political sectors expected to attend, the November 26 Abuja gathering is set to place the future of online journalism, electoral information and women’s political participation firmly in the spotlight.
