“I Stand By What I Said” — TikToker Shirin Breaks Silence After Explosive Childbearing Remarks Spark Backlash

Popular TikToker Shirin has refused to back down from her controversial position on childbearing, insisting that people who are financially incapable of raising children should not be legally allowed to have them.

Her earlier comments triggered intense reactions online, with critics accusing her of promoting a dangerous and discriminatory idea.

But in a follow-up video, Shirin doubled down, clarifying that she was specifically referring to people living in severe poverty who struggle to provide even basic necessities for themselves yet continue to have children.

According to her, children should not be brought into the world with the expectation that they will one day become their parents’ financial escape from poverty.

Shirin acknowledged that some people raised in extremely poor households have managed to become successful, but argued that such stories represent only a small fraction of those who grow up in hardship.

She pointed to children who end up begging on the streets or battling hunger, addiction and crime as realities she believes are often ignored when attention is focused only on those who eventually succeed despite their difficult backgrounds.

The TikToker also criticised the pressure placed on some young people to become financial providers for their parents and extended families.

“A child should never have the responsibility to take care of their parents and the family,” she said, while distinguishing this from voluntarily supporting parents later in life.

Shirin further questioned why contraception and family planning are not discussed more openly, arguing that people who are not financially or emotionally prepared to raise children should consider ways of preventing unintended pregnancies.

Despite the backlash, Shirin appears determined to stand by her argument, reigniting a wider debate online over poverty, responsible parenthood, reproductive rights and the responsibilities of parents
