The immediate past Commander 34 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Usman Lawal has handed over to Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohammed Abass.
This, National Beam gathered took place on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, as he bided farewell to troops of the Brigade.
The acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, CAPTAIN JOSEPH BABA AKUBO disclosed this in a Release he availed newsmen.
In his farewell remarks, Gen Usman appreciated the efforts of the troops in the fight against “criminals and the secessionist IPOB/ESN group”.
He said that the current state of security and peace in Imo state could not have been achieved without the efforts of the troops and other security agencies who fought and are still fighting to maintain peace.

The general who further expressed joy that the spate of kidnapping and other crimes have been reduced to it’s barest minimum, urged the troops to continue to stand firm and deny the “terrorist IPOB/ESN group and other criminal elements freedom of action”.
Gen Lawal, further appreciated the Chief of Defence Staff Gen CG Musa and the Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen OO Oluyede for their support and the opportunity to serve as Commander.
He also appreciated the governor of Imo State Senator Hope Uzoddima for his support as well as that of other security agencies.
He advised for the level of synergy between the state government and security agencies to be maintained, adding that the state should also cooperate with Gen Abass so as to consolidate on the level of security that has been achieved.
Speaking, Brig Gen Abass urged troops to maintain the same level of alertness and show of strength against all criminal elements stating that a change in Command does not change the fight against criminals and the quest for peace.
He sternly warns all criminal elements operating in the state to come out of the bushes, lay down their arms and surrender.
He emphasized that criminals will have a hard time under his command as he will lead the onslaught against them if they fail to surrender.
Gen Abass who asserted that the welfare of the troops will be taken seriously, assured that he will consolidate on all facets of the Brigade’s Administrative, operational and training successes.
Highlights of the handing and taking over ceremony includes a send forth ceremony at the officers mess, handing over of the Brigades Command flag and Insignia as well as the change of quarter guard.
Gen Abass will double as the Brigade Commander and Land Component Commander Joint Task Force OPERATION UDO KA.
