Great Commission Baptist Church marks Fathers’ Day …Advises men to embrace God, uphold duties as head of homes

The Men of the Great Commission Baptist Church (Joyful Assembly) located at Umuanunu Autonomous Community in Obinze, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, have successfully marked the 2024 Fathers’ Day Celebration in commemoration of the Worldwide celebration.

They also honoured some personalities with Awards for their immense contributions to the society and the church.

This took place on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at the Church premises.

Speaking to newsmen after the session, the Chairman of the Men’s Missionary Union of the church, Hon. Godson Okoro, appreciated God for keeping them alive to witness the ceremony, and for making it a success.

Fielding questions on the essence of the Fathers’ Day Celebration, Okoro averred that they do this yearly to remind the fathers of their role both in their families, the Churches, and the society.

He continued, “The celebration is nationwide, and the theme of our own celebration is “Fathers Are Super Heros” which is taken from the book of Judges 6:12, Philippians 2:13. It centralizes on Psalm 146:1-2, which indicates part of the work of men, where David executed certain responsibilities as a super hero, ‘Okoro stated.

The Chairman saying that men should always bear in mind that they are pillars of their various families, churches and the society, advised the men to always endeavor to behave as the head.

Adding his voice, A Deacon in the church and Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon Nnamdi Mac Onwuvuariri, who also appreciated God for the success of the programme, noted that the year’s celebration is superb just as the theme depicts.

The men Onwuvuariri said are the head of their Homes, they train their children, show them love and defend them when challenges arises, which he averred is the work of a hero.

He further lamented that he is pained that men as super heros are trying in their homes, but are not following Christ the way they should.

“The women are now looking more like the super heros in churches as you will always see large number of them taking over the activities of the church and it’s growth,’Onwubuariri said’.

He therefore urged the men to come up hither to also assume their roles in churches.

Rev’d Vincent Chiedo – the Guest Preacher who admonished the people on the Theme of the celebration, while taking his reading from Judges 6:12, Philippians 2:13, urged the men to always fear God, put Him first in all they do as He is the rewarder of they that diligently seek him.

Adding his voice, the Lead Pastor of the church, Rev’d Obindah Agbi reiterated all the Guest Minister said, hinting that the time has come when men should look into ensuring that their male children are well brought up in the ways of the Lord, so as to curtail the rate of crime in the society.

The awardees are: Chief Dr. Fidel Onyeneke KSC, JP who bagged Ambassador of Goodwill Award), Peter S. K. Uwa, also received Ambassador of Goodwill Award), Dr. David Echeji ( Ambassador of Peace Award), Emeka Ekejuba (Ezenwa Award), Mr & Mrs Chinedu Ohagwam (Exemplary Couple Award), Deacon A. O. Imo, JP ( Amb. of Goodwill Award).

Others are Mrs Chiaka Amadi who garnered Ezinne Award, Desmond Okechukwu Echeta, Ph.D (Ambassador of Goodwill Award), Kasie Ekeodu ( Ezinwa Award), Mr & Mrs Anthony Chukwuka Onyekwere ( Exemplary Couple Award), Engr. & Mrs Richard Amadi, ( Exemplary Couple Award), Hon. James Achogbuo (Ochiudo) Excellence Service Award, Mrs Violet Chiedo ( Ezinne Award), Dr. Samuel O. Nwaneri (Humanitarian Service Award)
