A group which is passionate about the growth and development of their constituency; Conference of United Progressive People, (CUPP) have expressed displeasure over the activities of Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere (Members Representing Ideato North/South Federal Constituency), saying “there is nothing to celebrate as Ikenga’s 365 days in Abuja remains a waste of time and the worst era in the history of legislative representation in Ideato Nation”.
CUPP executives stated this on Friday in a communique captioned, “365# Days Eaten by Locust; When Voice Speaks Louder Than Action”, which was signed by CUPP Ideato Chapter Chief spokesperson, Nze Dr. Modesty Ezenwa, and CUPP Director of Publicity, Hon. Emeka Ekwuoma.
The executives in company of one of their members, Cain Okpanganga, presented and read the communique to newsmen during the meeting of the group at Late Chief Collins Obi Council Chambers, Dikenafai, in Ideato
They expressed disappointment over the lawmakers activities in the federal constituency, urging that he retraces his steps, stop chasing shadows and focus on delivering on his mandate
Excerpts of the Communique reads:
“IDEATO has been taken miles back. Promises and assurances given on the eve of elections have flown, as the Honorable Member Representing Ideato North/South Federal Constituency, His Holiness Honourable St. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere is busy with everything except with what affects the people he represents in Abuja.
“We demanded for an explanation into certain pertinent matters which you, Ikenga or any of your aides never responded to
“Some of these issues were:
“Why you decided to re-bag, re-label, redesign, tamper and adjust bags of rice, beans, indomie etc, sent by the Federal Government to the people of IDEATO federal constituency through you.
“We asked why you decided to appoint someone from Edo State as your SENIOR LEGISLATIVE AIDE; a position that has been occupied by IDEATO people.
“We asked you to publish the list of the contractors handling constituency projects at the moment Knowing fully well that you deliberately refused to allow any local contractor to handle ldeato Federal constituency projects.
” We asked why you have not held any constituency briefings since you were elected (even when the NASS makes provision for the meeting )
“We demanded explanations for absence of a constituency office ( even when you have collected millions of naira for the purpose )
“We drew your attention to the 2024 Appropriation bill, and requested that you explain to us why you described IDEATO nation as an area occupied and devastated by militants. We demanded for the identities of the schools, markets and bridges you claimed that were destroyed by Militants in IDEATO Nation. For these, we accused you of giving IDEATO nation a bad name in order to scoop more funds for yourself.
“We asked why you have not been able to facilitate the employment of at least an individual from ldeato nation in any position. Not even a cleaner job has been attracted to IDEATO nation through you
” We demanded for explanations over your delay in making available to your constituents, palliatives made available to them by the Tinubu administration. You held unto them for several months until CUPP threatened to report the matter to the NASS and the presidency
“We questioned the idea of awarding 45000 naira worth of scholarship to 50 secondary school students in IDEATO when fees of these students are already taken care of by the existing state scholarships for the students )
“We questioned the idea of subjecting 50 young men and women to hardship for one month in the name of teaching them skills. These trainees were not given financial or material support to establish what they learnt
“As chairman House committee on downstream sector, we expect you to attract at least one NNPC mega filling stations.
“As an honorable member who is very close to the NASS leadership and is also working for the government in power, we expected that ldeato federal constituency benefits from the FG initiative on CNG powered vehicles by attracting CNG conversion centres in ldeato nation.
“As someone who made a lot of noise and raised hopes for job creation on the eve of his election, we reminded you that 365 days are enough to facilitate job opportunities for your people, as your predecessor, Hon Dr Paschal Obi, (The chairman of the House committee on Health institutions) empowered more than 120 graduate by giving them federal pensionable jobs in Health institutions in the country.
“Obi refurbished and equipped dozens of health centres, he never misused or under utilized the opportunity as House committee chairman, they stated’.
CUPP continued, “IDEATO Nation has been paused, as while the people are facing threats of environmental and ecological displacements, the inclement economic realities beam on their heads, Ikenga kept himself busy with “international issues ” and (would rather be comfortable addressing the concerns of Zamfara, Jigawa and Rivers States.
“We wondered why Ikenga abandoned the issues of ldeato erosion and roads which he claimed to hold the ace. Currently he occupies his mind with issues that wouldn’t add any value to ldeato nation, but will attract more social media followership and gather fans across the country for him.
“ldeato people wants to know how far he has gone with his assurances in facilitating the reconstruction of Orlu- Mgbee- Akokwa road and his efforts at saving some communities in ldeato South from the hands of environmental demons.
“The 365 days in Abuja remain a waste and the worst era in the history of legislative representation in IDEATO nation. There is really nothing to celebrate! Nothing to be proud of. Nothing to suggest that the next three years would be different from the last squandered 365 days.
“The CUPP IDEATO chapter therefore joins all the disappointed voters in ldeato to mark a one full year of prodigality, wastefulness, cosmetic and entertaining, frivolous jamboree.
“CUPP has earned the trust of IDEATO nation and would (continue to stand in the gap of advocating for their wellbeing,’they averred’.
The group therefore advised the lawmaker to focus on delivering on his mandate, ‘stop media madness, and over bloating of actions’.
