Imo Assembly amends State Polytechnic Law… As Majority Leader, Onyemaechi speaks on its intents



The Imo State House of Assembly has passed a Bill for a law to repeal the Imo State Polytechnic (Amendment) Law No. 11 of 2020 and to further amend the Imo State Polytechnic (Establishment) Law No. 15 of 2012 and other matters related thereto.

This took place on Tuesday during the House plenary after the House Committee on Education submitted their report on the bill, and it went through the Committee of the Whole House and the bill considered clause by clause before it was passed.

The Bill which was presented by the Majority Leader of the House, and Representative of Owerri West Constituency, Rt. Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi, when assented to by the Governor, provides that the Imo State Polytechnic, Omuma in Oru East Local Government Area would henceforth be known as Benjamin Uzoukwu Nzeribe State Polytechnic with its location in Awo-omamma in Oru East Local Government Area.

Onyemaechi also pointed out that the relocation of the Polytechnic will also pave way for the establishment of the University of Innovation, Science and Technology where the Polytechnic is presently situated in Omuma.

It would be recalled that the Imo State House of Assembly on August 25, 2025, had previously passed the Bill for a Law to Repeal the University of Science and Technology, Onuimo establishment Law No.16 of 2018 and enacted a Law to establish the University of Innovation, Science and Technology, Omuma in Oru East Local Government Area.
