Isiala Mbano lawmaker Osuji decries level of decadence of IMSUTH annex in LGA, as Imo Assembly calls on Health Commissioner for its rehabilitation

The Imo State House of Assembly has called on the Commissioner for Health to immediately visit the Imo State University Teaching Hospital annex at Anara, and the Amaraku Health Dispensary Post in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state.

This ensued as the Member Representing the LGA, and Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Rt. Hon. Samuel Osuji presented the motion on Wednesday, while lamenting over the level of degeneration of the health facilities.

The motion was seconded by Nkwerre lawmaker, Hon. Chisom Ojukwu, and co-sponsored by nine other members.

Throwing more light on the motion, Osuji pointed out that the Imo State University teaching Hospital (IMSUTH) Annex Anara, located along Anara-Orlu Road Anara and Amaraku Health Dispensary post, both in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, has been in a pitiful state, as they had been abandoned by previous administrations.

He continued that this has led to total decline in healthcare delivery in the LGA, and loss of lives.

“The negligence of these two strategic Health Infrastructures in Isiala Mbano by previous Administrations has caused untold hardship to pregnant women, children, the old, poor, the disabled persons, among others in the LGA, as they travel, sometimes trek at great risks to other local governments to look for better health care services”.

Saying that health is wealth, and that it has been the priority of Governor Hope Uzodimma to see that the people are thriving in good health, the Deputy Majority Leader called on the House to urge the Commissioner for Health to visit the two health facilities to ascertain it’s level of decadence, in other to begin rehabilitation and equipping of the facility.

“Governor Hope Uzodimma has through his 3-R Shared Prosperity mantra invested so much in building, equipping Hospitals, Health Centres across the state – Umuguma in Owerri-West, Ohaji-Egbeme, Oguta, Oru-East among others.

“The governor through the Imo State Health Insurance Agency has been saving millions of lives in the state; the pregnant women, children, the old, the poor, the disabled, etc,who are now enjoying the tremendous impact of 3-R Health initiative, and so I have no doubt that the issue of the health facilities will be addressed’, Osuji stated’.

Speaking in favour of the motion was the Orlu lawmaker, Hon. Ikenna Ihezuo who said his constituency had been benefiting from the health facilities when they were optimally functional.

Saying that it’s importance to the people cannot be overemphasized, Ihezuo asserted that it is essential for it to be resuscitate to continue serving the people.

Adding his voice, the Orsu representative, Rt. Hon. Uche Francis Agabige reiterating that the governor has done noble in the health sector, urged for him to also come to the aid of the people.

The Onuimo lawmaker, Hon. James Esile who noted that almost everything in the state is moribund, thanked God for giving the state Governor Hope Uzodimma who he said has shown great interested in the health of the people.

Others who supported the motion were Owerri North lawmaker, and Deputy Chief Whip, Rt. Hon. Kelechi Ofurum, Majority Leader, Rt. Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi, Ahiazu Mbaise, Hon Sam Otibe, Nkwerre lawmaker, Hon. Chisom Ojukwu, Oguta, Hon. Engr. Gilbert Nwosu.

As there was no one against the motion the Speaker Rt Hon Chike Olemgbe put it to vote and the Ayes had it.

He therefore directed the Clerk to the House resolution to the Commissioner and other related bodies.
