Kidnapped NYSC Members: Mother Reveals How She Raised ₦3m Ransom To Save Her Child

Fear, desperation and a frantic search for money gripped one mother as she struggled to secure her child’s freedom after 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members were abducted in Imo State.

The distraught mother revealed that she paid a staggering ₦3 million ransom to the kidnappers while living in constant fear over the fate of her child.

Recounting her ordeal, she said she ran from place to place in a desperate attempt to raise the money demanded by the abductors before eventually arranging for someone to deliver the ransom directly to them.

“I paid as much as ₦3 million as ransom while I was hoping that nothing happened to my child. I ran helter-skelter to raise the money. I eventually got the money and sent someone to deliver the ransom directly to them,” she said.

Her account has shed light on the emotional trauma and financial hardship experienced by families whose children were among the 20 prospective corps members abducted while travelling from Ibadan, Oyo State, to their respective NYSC orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom states.

The abduction plunged the affected families into anguish, forcing parents and relatives to search desperately for ways to secure the safe return of their loved ones.

For the mother who paid ₦3 million, the struggle went beyond raising money. Every moment was reportedly overshadowed by the fear that something terrible could happen to her child.

The incident has also highlighted the growing concerns surrounding the safety of travellers, particularly young Nigerians travelling to begin their national service.

The parents have continued to recount their experiences following the harrowing ordeal, revealing the enormous emotional and financial sacrifices families sometimes make when confronted with kidnapping.
