The controversy surrounding the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) took a dramatic turn as its self-acclaimed Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, was detained at the headquarters of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in Guzape, Abuja.
Adeyemi was reportedly arrested in Osun State by operatives of the IRT led by Chief Superintendent of Police Moses Lohor before being moved through Ibadan and subsequently flown to the Federal Capital Territory.
Sources revealed that his transfer to Abuja followed a warrant issued by Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court, Abuja. He was reportedly seen boarding a private aircraft on Thursday for the trip.
The arrest comes amid mounting scrutiny over the PFIPC, an organisation authorities have allegedly described as a fake Federal Government agency accused of presenting itself as an official government body.
A senior police officer, who spoke anonymously because he was not authorised to comment publicly, confirmed that Adeyemi is currently being held at the IRT headquarters, where investigators are questioning him over the organisation’s activities.
“He was arrested by IRT officials and is presently at the IRT headquarters answering questions,” the source disclosed.
Investigators are said to be examining the circumstances surrounding the establishment of the PFIPC, the claims allegedly made to members of the public, and other issues linked to its operations.
The development follows President Bola Tinubu’s directive to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the PFIPC controversy. The anti-graft agency was given 30 days to conclude its probe and submit its findings.
The case has continued to generate widespread attention, with many awaiting the outcome of the ongoing investigations and the revelations that may emerge from them.
