NUT Promises Better Welfare For All Teachers In Ebonyi State

The Nigeria Union Of Teachers (NUT) Ebonyi State chapter has pledged to work together with the State Executives of the Union and other relevant bodies to achieve a better and robust welfare for all the teachers in the State.

The NUT State Chairman, Comrade Francis Ekechi disclosed this in his office Abakaliki while reacting to the unannounced protest organized by some teachers under Local Government Area who are also under the supervision of Universal Basic Education Board UBEB.

Comrade Ekechi denied the knowledge of any protest by some UBEB Teachers.

However, the Chairman admitted that the teachers at the local Government level in charge of Primary and Junior Secondary School and that of the ones in charge Senior Secondary School have different salary tables.

He promised to make it Uniform through dialogue with the relevant authorities.

“Yes, it’s true that the teachers in Ebonyi State doesn’t have uniform salary. The SEB Teachers are earning bigger than the UBEB Teachers. As for the protest today, I was not aware as the leader of Teachers in the State”

“However, there are plans on ground and negotiations are ongoing to make the salaries be in uniform. I am also pleading with the Government to look into the matter as it’s not good for teachers in the State to be paid differently “. Ekechi said.

The Protest

The leader of the protest, Mr Otta Ibiam on behalf of others said the teachers here are not happy over the disparity in the salaries and allowances in the State.

Otta said none of the bonuses which Governor has been given to workers has ever gotten to them.

The protesters came with placards with different inscription like ‘we also need 2025 Christmas bonus like SEB Teachers’ among others.
