Police in Anambra have rescued five pregnant girls in a baby factory at Umunya, in the Oyi Local Government Area of the state.

The police, in collaboration with the state’s Ministry of Health, successfully launched a raid following a careful investigation.

Dr Afam Obidike, the Commissioner for Health, told journalists that the baby factory was functioning as a hospital, but it was a base for child trafficking.

According to Dr Obidike, the state government observed that some hospitals not registered were operating, stating that efforts were being made to launch an aggressive move to clamp down on them.

He explained that seven nurses, after seeing the security operatives, ran away.

The commissioner put the victims’ ages as 14 to 21 years.
