The Imo House of Assembly has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Hope Uzodimma for his “exemplary leadership in strengthening security, protection of citizens and driving socio economic revival across the state.”
The resolution followed a motion moved by member representing Nkwerre State Constituency, Hon. Chisom Ojukwu, on Wednesday, during the House plenary, which was co-sponsored by 14 other lawmakers
Presenting the motion, Ojukwu stated that the security operations under Uzodimma’s administration had dismantled criminal hideouts and led to the rescue of former lawmaker, Ngozi Ogbu, from kidnappers.
He highlighted data showing that armed robbery cases declined by 22 percent between 2022 and 2024 in the state, while ammunition recoveries more than doubled from 1,142 in 2020 to 2,242 in 2024, with over 1,500 recorded in the first quarter of 2025.
He continued, “the improved security climate has boosted nightlife, hospitality investment, and tourism, with Owerri reclaiming its position as a major entertainment hub in the South-East.
He therefore urged the members to commend both the governor and security agencies for their efforts, while encouraging the government to sustain operations and monitor hospitality and tourism activities to consolidate gains.
In their contributions, the member Representing Obowo State Constituency, Rt Hon. Kennedy Ibeh who followed suit in commending the governor and security agencies, expressed optimism that with continued government action insecurity with be reduced to its nearest minimum.
The Owerri North legislator, Rt. Hon. Kelechi Ofurum noted that peace in the state had spurred infrastructural development and lauded the establishment of vigilante groups in communities.
Adding his voice, Orsu lawmaker, Rt. Hon. Uche Agabige recalled that his constituency was among the worst affected during peak insecurity and praised the governor for significantly improving safety and dedicating resources to security operations.
Many others took turns, in supporting the motion, and it was unanimously adopted.
The Deputy Speaker Amarachi Iwuanyanwu who Presided over the session, therefore directed the Clerk to transmit the resolutions of the House to the governor and the security agencies.
This took place during the House plenary on Wednesday when the motion was moved by member representing Nkwerre State Constituency, Hon. Chisom Ojukwu, and co-sponsored by 14 other lawmakers.
Presenting the motion, Ojukwu noted that the renewed security operations in Imo State under the leadership of governor Uzodimma had successfully dislodged notorious criminal hideouts and rescued Mr Ngozi Ogbu, a former lawmaker from kidnappers.
He further noted that statistics showed a marked improvement in security stating that armed robbery cases had declined from 502 in 2022 to 391 in 2024, representing a reduction of 22%, while ammunition recoveries increased from 1, 142 in 2020 to 2,242 in 2024 and more than 1,500 in the first quarter of 2025.
He added that the enhanced security not only guaranteed the safety of lives and property but also directly contributed to the economic growth and stability of the State.
The lawmaker observed that the improved security climate had restored nightlife and encouraged hospitality investment, with Owerri reclaiming its place as a leading entertainment hub in the South-East.
He went on to add that Imo has been profiled as an emerging tourism hub, with rising hospitality opportunities, cultural heritage attractions, and increased visitor inflows.
He therefore prayed the house to commend the governor for his unwavering commitment to securing the state and for personally ensuring the dislodgement of criminal hideouts and the rescue of Mr Ngozi Ogbu.
Ojukwu also urged the house to commend the security agencies in the state for their gallantry and professionalism in carrying out the rescue and dislodgement operations.
He equally encouraged the government to sustain the tempo of security operations across the state in order to consolidate the gains achieved, and to strengthen monitoring of hospitality, nightlife, and tourism activities to further grow the state’s economy.

Supporting the motion, Mr Kennedy Ibeh (APC-Obowo) expressed confidence that the state will make more progress in ending insecurity through the efforts of all the operators of government.
Also supporting the motion, Mr Kelechi Ofurum (APC-Owerri North) added that it is necessary to keep encouraging the governor to continue his good works.
He noted that the peace and security of the state had led to improved infrastructure, while commending the governor also for the local vigilante groups in every community.
In his contribution, MrUche Agabige (APC-Orsu)
Added that there had been a great reduction in the crime rate in the state, since the governor came in.
Agabige recalled that his constituency was among the worst hit local government areas during the peak of insecurity in the state.
He therefore commended Uzodimma for the “highly improved” security in the and for mapping out substantial funds for fighting insecurity in the state.

The Deputy Speaker, Mr Amarachi Iwuanyanwu (Nwangele) who presided directed the Clerk of the house to convey the resolutions to the office of the governor and other related bodies.(NAN)
