PSC Cracks Down on Senior Police Officers, Four Dismissed as 31 Others Face Sanctions

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the dismissal of four senior police officers and imposed various disciplinary measures on 31 others following findings of misconduct and breaches of professional standards.

The decisions were taken during the Commission’s Plenary Meeting held at its Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.

Head, Protocol and Public Relations, and made available to newsmen

According to the PSC, the dismissed officers were found guilty of gross misconduct, unprofessional conduct, and actions deemed unbecoming of public officers.

Beyond the dismissals, the Commission approved a series of sanctions affecting several officers. Ten senior officers were demoted, including three Superintendents of Police reduced to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police, two Deputy Superintendents reduced to Assistant Superintendents, and five Assistant Superintendents downgraded to the rank of Inspector. Two officers were also compulsorily retired in the public interest.

The disciplinary measures further included severe reprimands for 10 officers, reprimands for five others, warning letters for three officers, and a letter of advice issued to one officer. The Commission also cleared seven officers after finding no evidence of wrongdoing against them.

Chairman of the Commission, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Hashimu Salihu Argungu, mni, reiterated the Board’s firm stance against indiscipline within the Nigeria Police Force.

He stated that the Commission would not tolerate any form of misconduct by police personnel and would continue to enforce discipline through appropriate sanctions.

“The current Board of the PSC under my watch will not condone any form of misconduct by police officers,” Argungu said. “The Commission will continue to uphold discipline in the Force and match all forms of misconduct with commensurate disciplinary actions. We will also continue to encourage and reward hardworking officers through our established reward system.”

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to promoting accountability, professionalism, and public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
