Dangote Petroleum Refinery has commenced free delivery of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, to six strategic locations across Nigeria while maintaining its ex-depot price of ₦1,075 per litre, a move expected to significantly impact fuel distribution costs.
The refinery disclosed the development in a notice posted on its official 𝕏 handle on Wednesday, stating that the free delivery service covers Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Kaduna and Delta states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
According to the company, the initiative is available to customers purchasing a minimum of 250,000 litres of petrol.
The latest move comes on the heels of recent engagements between Dangote Refinery and stakeholders in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector on the need for cost-reflective pricing of petroleum products.
At the end of the discussions, stakeholders reportedly backed further reductions in petrol prices, raising expectations of additional relief for consumers.
The refinery had only recently announced its fourth reduction in the gantry price of petrol, bringing the ex-depot rate down to ₦1,075 per litre.
Industry observers believe the free delivery arrangement could further ease logistics expenses for bulk buyers and potentially influence retail pump prices in the affected locations.
Meanwhile, the National President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Abubakar Maigandi, revealed that petrol prices have dropped by about ₦125 per litre within the last three weeks.
He noted that retail prices currently range between ₦1,155 and ₦1,299 per litre, depending on location and marketer.
The development adds a new dimension to ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector, where pricing, distribution costs and market competition continue to shape the outlook of the fuel market.
