The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man accused of killing his wife and abandoning her lifeless body inside a church premises in Owaelu, Owerri North Local Government Area.
According to the police, the victim’s body was discovered on Thursday morning, while the suspect allegedly fled the scene with two of their children, leaving behind a suckling baby. The infant was rescued and has been handed over to a trusted family member.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Owerri North Division immediately visited the scene as operatives launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspect and efforts to rescue the two children.
The Command appealed to members of the public with useful information to report to the Owerri North Divisional Police Headquarters or call its emergency line on 0803 477 3600.
In a major breakthrough, the police announced that the suspect has been arrested in Ebonyi State through a joint operation involving operatives of the Imo State Police Command and the Ebonyi State Police Command.
He is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Owerri, where he will undergo a comprehensive investigation before being charged to court if found culpable.
