Army Promotes 8 Officers In Imo, As Akubo, Others Get Elevated To Major, Captains

The 34 Artillery Brigade Obinze in Imo State has promoted some of six of its officers to the rank of Majors, and two to Captains.

The Assistant Director Public Relations of the Brigade, formerly Captain Joseph Baba Akubo, was one of the officers promoted to a Major.

This took place on Friday at the Brigade’s headquarters’Officers Mess in Owerri, Imo State Capital.

Other officers are: Major Steven Gabriel, Major Uzochukwu Adiela, Major Mohammed saud, Major Owotoye Ganiu, Abideen, Major Muhydeen Adeniyi Adeniran.

For the Captains we have: Captain Hilarion Chibuike Mmeriebekini, and Captain Yunus Audu.

Speaking, the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General, Ibrahim Mohammed Abass who congratulated the officers, noted that it was a well deserved honour as it is their hard work that has paid off.

“They are one of the best officers I have worked with. All the successes we have recorded are because of them, and other hardworking officers”. The Chief of Army Staff has always urged us to recognize hard work, which is what we have done”.

The Brigade Commander who gave Major Akubo a commendation letter, pointed out that Major Akubo has made a mark in the army, and so merited the commendation.

He further urged the officers to continue to be dedicated to their duties, as the promotion is a call to greater responsibility.

Adding his voice, the Garrison Commander of the brigade, Commander J. Abuo who also followed suit in congratulating the soldiers, averred that it is God that has found them worthy for their status to be elevated by the Nigerian Army in recognition of their hard work and commitment to duty.

Abuo specially lauded Major Akubo, saying that he has always been fighting alongside him, among other team of dedicated soldiers.
“Major Akubo’s dedication is second to none as even in his sad moments he still upholds his duty, and does not allow such a situation to weigh him down. I hardly eulogize my Juniors, but do so when I meet exceptional soldiers like Major Akubo”.

Saying that the reward for hard work, is more work, urged the officers not to relent in garnering more feats in the service.

Speaking to newsmen, Major J.D. Akubo returned all the glory to God for their new ranks, and for making it possible for them to see the day. He also thanked his family; wife, kids, friends, well wishers for their love and support to him including the newsmen, who he said have made his stay in Imo worthwhile and has made his job easy.

As to whom much is given, much is expected, Akubo assured Imo people, and the Nigerian Army of their continuous commitment towards the service, adding that they will not relent in upholding the vision of the Chief of Army Staff down to the Brigade Commander of ensuring that Imo State remains peaceful.

Speaking earlier, Hon. Dibiagwu Eugene Okechukwu, member representing Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta, Oru West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, who congratulated the officers, said it is a welcome development as they, the officers have worked assiduously towards keeping the peace in the state.

Dibiagwu expressed joy that peace have been restored in the State due to the ‘strong partnership the State Government has with the military’.

He commended the brigade for their efforts and urged them to keep up the “good work”.

Others who took turns in congratulating the newly promoted officers were the Commanding Officer of the 34 Artillery Brigade Signal, an outgone Commanding Officer of the Brigade, member representing Oguta State Constituency in Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Engr. Gilbert Nwosu, among others.
