The controversy surrounding an alleged drug-trafficking case involving President Bola Tinubu has taken a fresh twist, with a United States-based political advisory and lobbying firm claiming it has video evidence that could challenge the Nigerian President’s position on the matter.
The firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, disclosed this in a post on its verified X account on Monday, September 7, 2026.
According to the firm, it is seeking to introduce a video transcript as an additional evidentiary exhibit in proceedings before a US court.
Describing the material as “really extraordinary,” the firm claimed the video could undermine efforts to keep certain Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) records concerning Tinubu’s alleged past confidential.
The firm specifically referenced comments allegedly made at an All Progressives Congress (APC) political event by Adewale Tinubu, whom it described as President Tinubu’s reported nephew.
According to the firm, Adewale allegedly claimed he handled Tinubu’s Chicago case and personally encouraged him to settle the matter.
However, the lobbying firm alleged that the official court records identify Patrick S. Coffey, Esq. as the lawyer who represented Tinubu in the case.
It further claimed that there was no court appearance, pleading, signature or other filing identifying Adewale Tinubu as counsel in the proceeding.
The firm argued that the alleged discrepancy could become significant in the ongoing dispute over access to the FBI and DEA records.
It also claimed that because the alleged comments were made publicly at a political event, they could weaken arguments based on privacy protections.
The lobbying firm went further, alleging that the records in question could eventually become public regardless of which political party controls the US government.
However, the claims made by the firm remain allegations, and the assertions about the alleged video evidence and its potential legal implications have not, by themselves, established that Tinubu committed any drug-trafficking offence.
The development is nevertheless likely to fuel renewed attention around the long-running controversy over Tinubu’s records in the United States and the legal battle over whether related government documents should be released.
The big question now is: what exactly is contained in the “extraordinary” video the firm says it wants to place before the US court?
