The widow of the slain Chukwudi Ordu who met his untimely death during the operation between some government agents with some residents of Toronto, MCC of lmo State has cried out for justice over the death of her late husband demanding for justice for the family.
The widow, Mrs Gift Ordu, who is from Umuchima, Umuoba Urratta in Owerri North LGA of Imo State while speaking with journalists in Owerri, the capital of lmo State on Tuesday 9th December 2025, could not hold her tears while narrating the incident that claimed the life of her promising husband on that fateful day 29th October 2025 asked for the involvement of concerned persons to the rescue of the family.
The mourning woman told newsmen “l am Mrs Gift Ordu,the wife of late Engr, Chukwudi Ordu, who was shot at the venue of the crisis at Toronto and later died after surgery at FMC Owerri on the 1st of November 2025. He was aged 38″.
According to her, ”On that fateful day,my husband came home and parked his car and asked me and our six children to move inside the house, adding that he saw people running and that it may be a dangerous situation for people to be running around that way.
”He instructed me to take the kids inside the house and lock the gate while he stood outside the compound watching what was going on” .
”Within some minutes later ,all of a sudden,we started hearing gun shots ,he immediately ran out to our neighbor’s house while me and the children were inside our own house and I was peeping through the window.
”While the shooting was still on,some people were shouting and crying and because of fear,l couldn’t come outside to know what was happening, but later we started hearing sounds on our own gate and it happened that someone was knocking on our gate and my eldest son, who is 17 years old, told me that the voice looks like his dad’s voice and he said he will go and open the gate for him, and I said okay, immediately he ran outside to open the gate,it happened to be my husband in the pool of his own blood and my son started shouting, calling me mummy, it’s Daddy and I ran out behold, he was shot by operatives suspected to be Tiger Base and ENTRACO people that came for the operation.
”When I saw how it was going l started making calls, calling his sister and brothers those who were around and to the glory of God some people helped me and carried him to Salvation Hospital in Owerri, where he was rejected. They referred us to FMC Owerri and before that ,my sister-in-law went to State CID for police report and it was after the police report that the surgery was carried out and we spent over 5 million, for the scans , X-ray,surgery and drugs we even paid at the CID before the police report was given.
”it happened that two days after the surgery he gave up the ghost and since then till now no body from the government has ever asked, even when people have been giving account of what happened that fateful day 29th October 2025 .
I am calling on the government to give me and my family justice,l have 6 six children ranging from 17 to 8 months old baby it’s over two months now,we spent so much money trying to resuscitate him and all our efforts provided abortive. The lab test carried out showed that his lungs failed as a result of the gun shot that’s why he couldn’t survive.
Adding her voice,the sister in law,Mrs Chiamaka Nwuka said, “on that fateful day 29th October 2025 , l was in my shop and I saw people running helter-skelter and because my shop is close to my brothers shop,l called him asking about his family and he responded that they were fine and that he was at home with them then”.
”Then I relaxed, few minutes after the conversation with my brother my phone rang and it happened to be his wife calling and by this time she was crying and I couldn’t understand why, later the child called telling me that they were at Salvation hospital MCC and that I should come there that his dad was shot”.
”I rushed down to Salvation hospital, because l had already closed my shop when the thing started, but when I got to the hospital,I was told that they had left for FMC and I rushed down there”.
”After running around to get the police report,4 pints of blood, scans, X-ray it was around 10 to 11pm”.
”When he came out from the theatre l asked him how he was feeling, he told me that he was fine. By then l asked him what really happened,he said ” l saw people running helter-skelter on my way home and when i parked my car i told my wife to take the children inside the house while I stood outside to monitor what was going on,at that point i was standing in front of our gate ,they started shooting guns sporadically and because our own gate was locked, i ran to the next house close to ours and few minutes later someone started shouting and banging on the gate on hearing the sounds ,i decided to check who the person was and when i opened the gate , I saw the victim on his own pool of blood,that was what made me to rush to drag him inside the compound and as I was trying to help him one of the guys from Tiger Base and ENTRACO official shot me at a close range and I couldn’t continue so I used the last straight l have to run back to my house that’s the last thing l could remember that happened”.
The sister who happened to be the last born of 7 children from their late parents is married with 4 children, she is asking the authority to investigate the matter and give justice to her brother and the family .
”Things are hard as we speak and I can’t take care of 10 children because my sister in-law , is not doing anything and my late, brother is an Engr and owns a block industry he is managing as his side hustle so I don’t know where to start from as things are no longer the way they used to be any more”.
She said that they are from Umuchima Umoba Uratta in Owerri North LGA and that since the incident,the Traditional Ruler of Obibi-Urrata Autonomous Community,HRH Eze Bonface Aririh has never said anything concerning the matter,she added that the member Representing Owerri North in the lmo State House of Assembly,Hon .Kelechi Ofurum visited while the brother was still in the hospital, but since after his death, nobody has asked his family about anything and the way forward.
She is using this medium to seek justice and full compassion since their brother left 6 children that will be going to school and needs to be useful people in the society.
She said,”Tiger Base ,ENTRACO hit men numbering about 200 that came that day, decided to bring mayhem to their family for reasons they are not aware of,she submitted.
The member Representing Owerri North in the lmo State House of Assembly when contacted said he doesn’t have anything to say concerning the issue.
