Night Attack in Niger: Bandits Storm Traditional Leader’s Home, Abduct Him, Son and Relative

MARIGA, NIGER STATE — Fear has gripped residents of Gulbin Boka in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State following a night attack in which armed bandits reportedly abducted a traditional leader, his son and another family member.

The attackers reportedly stormed the residence of the Sarkin Fulani of Betuwa on Friday night and took the three victims away before fleeing the community.

According to a security alert issued by Bakatsine and confirmed on Saturday, the assailants invaded the traditional leader’s residence during the night and carried out the abduction.

“Last night, bandits reportedly attacked the residence of the Sarkin Fulani of Betuwa in Gulbin Boka, Mariga LGA of Niger State,” the security platform reported.

Local sources said the attackers abducted the traditional leader, his son and another relative before escaping from the area.

The identities and current whereabouts of the victims remained unknown as of the time of filing this report.

There was also no immediate confirmation on whether security agencies had launched a rescue operation or commenced efforts to track down the attackers.

The incident has heightened concerns over the security situation in Mariga and neighbouring communities, where residents have continued to face threats from armed groups.

Niger State has in recent times witnessed recurring attacks and abductions, particularly in rural communities, leaving residents increasingly concerned about their safety.

Authorities had yet to provide further details on the latest incident as of press time.
