Leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has cautioned former President Goodluck Jonathan against pursuing a presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general election.
Ayodele’s warning follows calls by a political group urging Jonathan to contest the presidency in 2027.
In a statement issued through his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, the cleric warned that although Jonathan’s return to the ballot could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape and pose a major challenge to other contenders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, it could also damage the former president’s respected image.
According to him, Jonathan’s candidacy would shake the ruling party and surprise many Nigerians, but he stressed that the former president appears hesitant and must be prepared for a difficult political battle if he decides to run.
Ayodele added that Jonathan would likely enjoy international backing and sponsorship should he join the race, but maintained that the journey would be far from easy.
