The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, ISIEC has announced the result of the 2024 Local Government Council election held on Saturday, September 21 in the state, disclosing that the All Progressives Congress, APC won in the whole 27 LG of the State, both for the Council Chairman and the Councillorship positions.
This was revealed to newsmen on Sunday, September 22, 2024, by the Chairman of the Commission, Chief Charles Ejiogu, at the ISIEC Office in Owerri, the state capital.
Ejiogu who stated that the results are verifiable, averred that the commission in its quest to enthrone participatory democracy at the grassroot went through the whole process of ensuring that the will of the people prevailed.
He continued, “We went through consultations with critical stakeholders. Beginning with INEC, Imo State Orientation Agency, security agencies, and other bodies to inform them of the commission’s eagerness to conduct a credible election.
“We gave room for robust political activities; for the parties and their candidates to express themselves by selling their manifestos, and programmes to the electorate.
“But at the end of the day, it was incumbent on the people; the electorate to make their choices of who they want to represent them, and that they have done through their votes,’ Ejiogu stated’.
The Chairman revealed that out of the 19 registered political parties, only 17 participated in the election that, according to him, took place in the Three Hundred and Five (305) electoral wards, Twenty Seven (27) Council areas and Four Thousand, Seven Hundred and Fifty Eight (4,758) polling units across the state.
He also disclosed that at the eve of the election, the Commission made it possible for all political parties to inspect the electoral materials, both the sensitive and non- sensitive ones of which they confirmed.
Ejiogu further lauded the Inter-party Advisory Council (IPAC), people of the State and security officers for their efforts in ensuring the success of the election.
