The Imo State Commissioner for Health, Primary Health, Social Services, and Health Insurance, Dr. Chioma Egu has formally launched the 2025 African Vaccination Week in the State, with the theme,”Immunization for All is Humanly Possible”
She stated that there focus is on children that are under the age of 5, pregnant women, and other at – risk groups to avail them with life-saving vaccines against diseases such as measles, polio, yellow fever, and hepatitis B.

Assuring that the vaccines are safe, effective, and completely free of charge in all health facilities, Dr Egu called on parents, caregivers, and community members to ensure they actively participate in the campaign.

She also appealed to traditional rulers, faith leaders and youths groups, media practitioners to join hands with the Ministry in disseminating the message and mobilizing their communities.
The commissioner made the call on Friday while addressing news men after the ministry engaged in Road Walk around Owerri, the State capital, to create awareness about the campaign.
Dr Egu looking at the year’s theme, “Immunization for All is Humanly Possible” noted that with unity, commitment, and shared determination to protect lives that the theme is attainable, as it is pertinent for the people to be vaccinated.
She lauded Governor Hope Uzodimma, saying that he has shown unwavering commitment in prioritizing on health as the most essential aspect of human development.
“Through His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma’s leadership, we have seen improvements in our immunization systems, primary health care delivery, and the expansion of outreach to vulnerable populations”.
She further disclosed that the immunization campaign will be intensified in communities in the 27 Local Government Area of the state, with major focus on the areas with low coverage, and hard-to- reach.
Adding her voice, the Executive Secretary of the ministry, Rev Sister Dr. Marie Joaness Uzoma explained that they observe the African Vaccination Week every year towards last Friday of the month of April.
She noted that the purpose of the road show was to sensitize the people on the need to vaccinate their children, and themselves where need be, adding that the people getting vaccinated will ensure a healthy nation free from preventable diseases.
She therefore urged the people of the state to eschew negative rumours about vaccines and avail themselves for the drugs, asserting that not adhering to it can tantamount to some health challenges that can be detrimental to ones healthy living.
