The Imo State House of Assembly has amended the Imo State Polytechnic Law (Law No. 15 of 2012) where the campuses of the Polytechnic in Orlu and Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the State will now be moved to the campus in Omuma, Oru East LGA of the State as it’s permanent site.
The Bill, “A Bill for a Law to Amend the Imo State Polytechnic Law (Law No. 15 of 2012) which is an Executive Bill, was amended on Tuesday during the House plenary.
It was presented by the Majority Leader of the House, and member representating Owerri West State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi.

On Thursday, April 25, 2024, it was read the second time and was committed to the House Committee on Education which submitted their report to the House on the aforementioned date; Tuesday, April 30, 2024, for further deliberation.
Addressing journalists after the Bill was passed, the Majority Leader of the House, Onyemaechi disclosed that the premises where the Orlu and Ehime Mbano campuses are situated belongs to the Catholic Church which leased it out then, but has now decided to take it back, which is why the campuses are being relocated to the campus at Omuma, as the government of the day has decided to return the land back to the church.
He continued, “the movement is even also to the benefit of the Polytechnic as it will ensure easy management, smooth, effective and efficient running of the Polytechnic.
“It will make monitoring of the activities of the students easy, and has a larger space to contain the two campuses, ‘Onyemaechi explained’.
As a result of the amendment, he further clarified that the Deputy Rector will only have two years in office except if the governor decides to renew his tenure, which after that second tenure, he will hand over to another person.
