Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, has disclosed why he decided to appoint himself as the Commissioner for Lands.
The governor revealed this on Wednesday during the celebration of the 2024 International Workers Day at Ndubuisi Kanu’s Square in Owerri, the State capital.
Governor Uzodimma who assured not just the workers but the people of the state of fulfilling all his promises to them, pointed out that he noticed that many ills were going on in the Ministry of Lands which therefore prompted his taken such decision.
According to him, “I found out that the fraud and criminality going on in the Ministry of Land is unprecedented. It seems to me that the land that belongs to the government belongs to nobody anymore, that is why your governor is now the commissioner for land.
“What this means is that I have incumbered myself as I cannot allocate land to myself anymore because of this decision. I have disqualified myself from being allocated land to, but I will ensure that we must allocate the lands with due process to the people.
“So those who thought that the government has forgotten them over the land they stole and built houses on, should know that they will face me in the coming days.
“We will recover every land that belongs to government. Those of you who hid under my canopy and pretended to be working for me, while they were stealing lands, we will now know whether I am the one who sent you or you sent yourself.
“So imolites don’t be afraid for we must get it right for the way I started in 2020, I will continue to work until the time I leave office. So for me, there is nothing like first or second tenure, ‘governor Uzodimma averred’.
