As part of the efforts of the Shared Prosperity Agenda of His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma aimed at improving access to quality public hygiene and addressing environmental concerns, Imo State Government has ordered immediate construction of public Sanitation facilities at strategic locations throughout the state.
The government therefore directs the Honourable Commissioner for Water Resources Ozo Obinna Ogwuegbu to partner with the private sector to ensure the swift and quality implementation of these facilities. This decision follows the recent Open Defecation Free (ODF) stakeholders’ meeting, emphasizing the need for accessible sanitation and hygiene options for the general public hence aid in curtailing the spread of diseases like cholera. This initiative is also part of the broader Clean Nigeria Campaign, showcasing the government’s commitment to eliminating open defecation in the state.
The government is leveraging the Open Defacation Free (ODF) status of some local government areas in the state as a model for this initiative. Imo residents are encouraged to utilize these new facilities to support the state’s efforts in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
Private sector entities also are invited to partner with the state government through the Ministry of Water Resources to bring these significant projects to fruition.
