The Naval Base in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State has organized a free medical, educational outreach for the people of their host community in Eziorsu community.
This took place on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the Eziorsu Community Primary and Secondary School, where the people of the community; old and young, including students of the school gathered for the outreach.
It would be recalled that the Naval Base on Thursday, November 14, 2024, held similar outreach for the people of Orsu Obodo, which took place at community’s secondary school premises; St Michael’s Secondary School.
For this second phase of the outreach at Eziorsu the people also went through medical checks; Blood Pressure Checks, Blood Sugar Checks, given medical advice and medications to take care of their ailments. Insecticide treated nets were also distributed.


The students on the other hand were given sanitary pads, roll on, writing materials, and were also educated on how to take care of their body by an Officer of the Base, POMA Omolaye . B. C.

The Executive Officer of the Naval Base, Commander Ukeme Anthony, speaking on behalf of the Commander of the Base, Commodore Mohammed Basheer Salisu, appreciated the community leader addressed as ‘Ajia’ and the people for given them the opportunity to serve them in such capacity.

Ukeme continued, “The Naval Base Oguta decided to embark on this free medical and educational outreaches inline with the mandate of the Nigerian Navy, and vision of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla.
“This is aimed at fostering civil mutual relations, enhancing, and improving our cooperate social responsibility, as well as improving our working relationship with our host communities,’
He commended the people of the community and other host communities for maintaining a cordial relationship with them, and always welcoming the outreaches, which according to him has availed the people the opportunity to dictate some of the health challenges they are having and how to properly tackle them.
He further advised the elderly ones to always go for proper medical check ups, and for the youths to stay away from any form of criminal activities, but to study hard to become great leaders in the nation.
The Executive Officer also assured the people of their safety in this yuletide period, adding that they the officers of the Naval Base will be around to make the environment secure and peaceful for them to enjoy the season.
Adding his voice, the Community Leader, Ajia Samuel Esomonu, noted that they are elated to see the naval Base organize the outreach for them, averring that they did not expect it.

Esomonu emphasized on the pertinence of the free medical care, reiterating that it has availed most of them the opportunity to know their health status.
He urged the officers to keep it up and prayed that God will reward them for such kind gestures.
Adding her voice, the principal of the school, Mrs Oluchi Anumudu further expressed joy over the outreach, averring that they were excited when they heard about it.

She thanked the officers for making all her students from Junior Secondary class 1 – Senior Secondary class 3 to get either sanitary pads, roll on, writing materials among others.
She also prayed for God to replenish their pockets, and give them the enablement to do more.
