FG Confirms Talks with U.S. over Trump’s Military Threat

The Federal Government has confirmed that it is engaging the United States in diplomatic talks following the recent military threat issued by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this during an interview with Sky News on Monday, noting that discussions through established diplomatic channels are ongoing and proving effective.

“Channels of communication have been opened. I can confirm that we are talking with them, and I think they are understanding the situation better,” Idris stated.

He explained that the tension stemmed from misinformation and a poor understanding of Nigeria’s complex security challenges. “We believe that most of the information is a result of a lack of proper understanding of the diversity and complexity of the problem we have at hand,” he added.

Idris emphasized that Nigeria has not lost any territory to Boko Haram terrorists, clarifying that the country’s fight against insurgency is not a conventional war.

The minister further alleged that some proscribed separatist elements were working with certain U.S.-based lobby groups to misinform American authorities about the situation in Nigeria.
