Ikenga Ugochinyere Hints at Possible Defection from PDP

Member representing Ideato North and South Federal Constituency of Imo State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, has hinted at the possibility of leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ugochinyere, who made the disclosure during plenary on Thursday, November 13, however, did not reveal which political party he might be joining.

Speaking on the floor of the House, the lawmaker shared what he described as a symbolic dream that may hold political significance for the nation’s future.

“Mr Speaker, this night while I was sleeping, I saw in my dream this movement that happened. But I also saw a big elephant that was coming into town, and I asked, what is this elephant about? And they said it may end up being the only political party that may save all of us from what is going to happen,” Ugochinyere stated.

He added that he was currently consulting widely on the matter and would soon confer with the Speaker and other stakeholders.

“Mr Speaker, I am consulting, and I am going to consult you very soon because the way the umbrella is today is very frightening,” he said, referring to the PDP’s symbol.

Reacting, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, jokingly asked whether Ugochinyere was submitting a petition to the Green Chamber on the matter. The lawmaker responded with a laugh before proceeding with the formal introduction process as required by House rules.

The remarks have since fueled speculation that Ugochinyere may be considering defecting to another political party, with observers linking his “elephant” reference to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
