A Philosophical Publication On The Recent Positions Of Some Traditional Rulers Regarding Anioma State Creation

In every generation, a moment arrives when a people must choose between the shadows of hesitation and the sunlight of destiny. For Anioma, that moment is now.

The dream of Anioma State is not new, not sudden, and certainly not the invention of political convenience. It was the labour, the aspiration, and the unshakable conviction of our revered forebears

Dennis Osadebay, Senator Nosike, the late Asagba of Asaba Obi Chikezie Edozien, the late Dein of Agbor (father of the present king), the late Obi Nwoko of Idumuje-Ugboko, the Obi of Aboh, and many other traditional custodians of Anioma identity.

They envisioned Anioma not merely as a state but as a dignified return to its historic Eastern root, where cultural kinship, linguistic identity, and ancestral memory align as one.

Today, Senator Ned Nwoko has taken up that ancient mandate not as a personal battle, but as the final lap of a marathon generations have run.

Yet, in this defining moment, a few voices of authority have chosen a path that contradicts their earlier commitments.

The recent decisions by the Asagba of Asaba, and the shift in stance by the Dein of Agbor, have raised profound questions in the hearts of our people. Not because disagreement is forbidden, it is not, but because these very leaders had previously stood firmly in support of Anioma State Creation, even participating actively in the process.

What changed?

What new truth emerged that was previously unknown?

What reason now justifies abandoning a cause their fathers and predecessors championed so passionately?

The Asagba now argues that he withdraws from the Technical Committee because:

1. There are “irreconcilable differences” over geographical delineation.

2. There are suspicions that the capital may be moved from Asaba.

Yet these concerns conflict with the facts known to all:

The proposed bill clearly confines Anioma State to the existing 9 LGAs of Delta North.

No part of Delta Central or Delta South is being merged.

The geopolitical zone designation has never altered the identity, power, economy, or heritage of a people, just as Anioma survived transitions from Western Region to Midwest, to Bendel, and now South-South.

So the question becomes:

How does belonging to the South East, a region that needs only one state to be balanced, diminish Anioma?

What do we stand to lose?

Up to this day, no answer has been provided.

History Is Watching

Anioma is not a monarchy. Anioma is a people.

A people older than any throne, larger than any stool, and wiser than any political allegiance.

Our traditional rulers are respected. They are symbolic pillars of our identity.

But they are not the voice of the entire Anioma nation.

They speak for themselves and sometimes for their communities, but Anioma itself is a collective destiny, not a royal estate.

And so, when a few leaders suddenly shift position, after previously endorsing the cause, the people have the moral right to question:

What motivates this change?

Why now, when success is finally within reach?

Why contradict their predecessors who fought openly for this very dream?

Why align with political preferences that may not reflect the will of the people?

These contradictions create an impression whether accurate or not, that political influence, fear of loss of relevance, or the pressure of certain interests may be weighing more heavily than the aspirations of the people.

But the People Must Decide Their Future. Not Fear, Not Politics, Not Compromise

The coming referendum is not a referendum on kings.

It is not a referendum on politicians.

It is not a referendum on personal interests.

It is a referendum on Anioma identity,

on Anioma destiny,

on Anioma self-determination.

Those who oppose Anioma joining the South East fully understand that only one state can be created in the region.

To demand Anioma State in the South South where the constitution makes no such provision, is indirectly saying Anioma should not be created at all.

This is the uncomfortable truth.

The Ancestors Have Spoken Through History, Not Through Fear

Our fathers said:

“Let Anioma stand where its roots began.”

“Let Anioma rise where its identity is strongest.”

“Let the Eastern voice echo with the name Anioma.”

Are we now to abandon this heritage because of modern fear?

Because of political calculations that may not last beyond the next election cycle?

Because of royal preferences that contradict ancestral expectations?

Anioma, Stand Firm

This is our moment.

Not for division.

Not for intimidation.

Not for confusion.

But for clarity.

For unity.

For courage.

Let no one tell you Anioma will lose anything by becoming the 6th state of the South East.

Let no one threaten you with shadows.

Let no one convince you to fear your own identity.

Anioma loses nothing.

Anioma gains everything.

And above all,

Anioma becomes complete.

Ahead of the Referendum

We call on all sons and daughters of Anioma:

Vote with the wisdom of our ancestors.

Vote with the courage of our forebears.

Vote with the hope of generations yet unborn.

Kings may speak.

Politicians may maneuver.

But the power of destiny rests with the people.

Let us stand together.

Let us vote overwhelmingly.

Let us finish the work our fathers began.

ANIOMA STATE MUST COME.

AND IT MUST COME IN THE SOUTH EAST—WHERE IT BELONGS.
