Army, Air Force Foil ISWAP Attack on Chibok, Neutralize Fleeing Terrorists

Troops of the 28 Task Force Brigade, Sector 4 Operation Hadin Kai, on Saturday repelled a major attack by ISWAP/Boko Haram fighters on Chibok, Borno State, before the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) launched targeted airstrikes that neutralized many of the fleeing terrorists.

The incident was disclosed in a post on X by security analyst, Zagazola Makama.

According to the report, more than 300 terrorists staged a coordinated assault on Chibok at about 3:00 a.m., attempting to breach military defensive lines. Soldiers immediately engaged the attackers in a fierce gun duel that lasted for approximately two hours.

A security source cited in the post commended the troops for their swift and professional response.

“There was no casualty on our side, and no equipment was affected,” the source confirmed.

When the terrorists began retreating toward the Timbuktu Triangle, the ground troops requested air support. NAF combat aircraft were deployed to the route used by the fleeing fighters.

The airstrikes, directed by real-time intelligence from troops on the ground, targeted several clusters of terrorists attempting to escape. Both manned aircraft and an unmanned aerial platform executed multiple strike waves, hitting fighters dispersing into the surrounding forest.

Makama noted that the combined efforts of the Army and Air Force dealt a significant blow to the terrorists, disrupting their plan and preventing them from regrouping after the failed attack.
