A United States lawmaker representing Virginia’s Second District in the House of Representatives, Rob Wittman Moore, is currently in Nigeria on what appears to be a fact-finding mission.
Moore disclosed his presence in the country on Sunday through a post on his official X handle, stating that he was in Nigeria on behalf of the American people.
“I came to Nigeria in the name of the Lord and on behalf of the American people. Just ending a very productive visit to Nigeria and rounds of meetings. More details to come. Happy Sunday. God is Great!” he wrote.
Although he did not provide specific details regarding the purpose of his trip, his visit is believed to be connected to ongoing investigations by US lawmakers into alleged genocide against Christians in Nigeria.
This comes despite repeated denials by the Nigerian government, which insists that no genocide is taking place. However, several members of the US Congress continue to argue that Islamic extremist groups are systematically targeting Christian communities, especially in northern Nigeria.
More updates are expected as the lawmaker releases further information on the visit.
