Popular Nollywood actress and media personality, Nancy Isime, has stirred reactions on social media after sharing her candid views on the role of financial stability in marriage.
Speaking during a recent episode of the Tea With Tay podcast, the actress argued that while love is important, it may not be enough to guarantee a happy and fulfilling married life when financial struggles persist.
According to Isime, she does not believe that marrying a poor man can make a woman truly happy, stressing that economic hardship often places enormous pressure on relationships and family life.
“Marriage is not a poverty alleviation scheme, but I don’t believe marrying a poor man can make you happy,” she said.
The actress explained that challenges such as unpaid rent, inability to settle children’s school fees, and lack of food in the home can make it difficult for couples to enjoy the beauty of marriage.
“When rent is due, school fees can’t be paid and there is no food in the house, it is difficult to have a fantastic life,” she stated.
Clarifying her position, Isime noted that she was not suggesting that love cannot exist without money. However, she maintained that being in love and living a comfortable, fulfilling life are two different things.
“I am not saying there is no love without money. But love and a fantastic life are not the same,” she added.
The actress further advised intending couples to attain a reasonable level of financial stability before getting married and starting a family, emphasizing the importance of preparedness for the responsibilities that come with marriage.
