The Governor of Ebonyi State Southeast Nigeria, Mr Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has described The National Youth Service Corps NYSC in the State as agent and instrument of National Transformation, peace and Unity.
Nwifuru Stated this during the swearing- in ceremony of 2025 NYSC batch ‘C’ orientation course held at NYSC permanent Orientation camp located at Old MacGregor college Afikpo Local Government Area of the State.
The Governor who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of State Ministry Of Sports and Youths Development, Mr Hillary Obiesie Ogbonna
commended the State Coordinator for her examplary leadership.
He said “The National Youth Service Corps remains one of the most visionary and unifying programmes ever conceived in our country’s history. For over five decades, it has stood as a shining symbol of unity, fostering understanding, tolerance, and collaboration among Nigerians from diverse backgrounds. Through education, healthcare, agriculture, and community development, the NYSC has continued to serve as a vital instrument for national transformation”
“Remember, this service year is more than a civic duty, it is an opportunity for leadership and nation building. Be the salt that adds value wherever you go. Be the light that dispels ignorance, prejudice, and despair. Let your actions reflect the values of discipline, hard work, and patriotism.
“Here in Ebonyi State, we hold these values dearly. We recognize the energy,innovation, and sense of purpose that Corps Members bring each year. You are not strangers here, you are now part of our story, part of our people, and part of our future.
Let me assure you that the Government of Ebonyi State is deeply committed to your welfare, safety, and comfort. A lot of effort is being invested to ensure that your stay here is not only peaceful but also productive and rewarding. From improving camp facilities to strengthening security and community partnerships, we are working tirelessly to make your experience in Ebonyi truly exceptional”. He added.
“On behalf of the Government and the good people of Ebonyi State, I welcome you once again with open arms. We are proud to host you. We are proud to walk this path of service with you. May your orientation course be enriching, and may your service year be peaceful, inspiring,and memorable.Thank you, God bless you, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria”. He added.
On her part, the NYSC State Coordinator Mrs Oladeinde Foluke said NYSC family in Ebonyi State continues to celebrate this current administration for its unflinching support, steadfast partnership, and visible commitment to youth development.
She acknowledged the presence of the Chief Judge of Ebonyi State, Justice Elvis Ngene, ably represented by Justice Nicolas Nwofe who administered the Oath of Allegiance.
“A total of 1,495 Corps Members, comprising 650 males and 845 females, have so far been duly registered and are ready today to take the Oath of Allegiance and commence their service year” she added.
“Your Excellency, distinguished guests, it is important to highlight a significant achievement recently recorded by NYSC Ebonyi State.At the just concluded 2025 Batch ‘C’ Pre-Orientation Workshop held in Abuja, Ebonyi State emerged as a shining example of excellence nationwide. The State was:- Ranked FIRST in meal service nationwide.- Ranked FIRST in camp market price control, – Ranked THIRD in the registration category,- Exceptional commendation on the transportation arrangement at the end of the orientation course organized for relocated out corps members, while also receiving commendation for maintaining consistently high standards across all other assessment areas. Your Excellency, these national achievements are not accidental”. She presented.
She testified that the State Government has remained a reliable pillar of support in the State
CHALLENGES
“While the State Government has remained a reliable pillar of support, we respectfully appeal for assistance in addressing the following challenges within the Orientation Camp:
– Upgrading the dilapidated kitchen into a modern facility with a standard dining hall; Provision of a SAED Centre within the camp to equip Corps Members with essential entrepreneurial skills, Erection of fallen portions of the perimeter fencing to strengthen camp security, Renovation of aging hostel blocks for safer and more comfortable accommodation, Provision of additional plastic chairs for the multipurpose hall, Provision of convenience facilities within the multipurpose hall, Payment of stipends to Corps Members posted to public schools and government establishments to enhance welfare and motivation” She urged.
“Your Excellency, considering your track record of purposeful intervention, we remain confident that these requests will receive your positive consideration”. She affirmed.
She appreciated State NYSC Governing Board, all partnering agencies, camp officials, and security operatives for their efforts to ensure the success of the ceremony.
